A number of persons seeking nominations from the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) met with the party’s candidates committee at its Farrington Road headquarters on Tuesday.
St. Anne’s Aspirant, Chris Saunders is vying to contest the seat for the second time. He told reporters that residents of the area want real representation. He said, “on our fact finding missions throughout St. Anne’s the people say they want representation. They don’t want lip service. They want actual economic stimulus that happens within the constituency.”
Keno Wong and Latorna McPhee also met with the committee hoping to be the Party’s standard bearer for St. Anne’s. Wong told reporters, “I realize that everyone deserve a second chance in life and tonight our prime minister is a man of second chances.”
For her part, McPhee said, “this is nothing new. I’ve been doing this. I have been in Nassau Village for two general elections and I’ve been working with other members of parliament and I feel that this time is my time.”
Former senator, Robyn Dawn Lynes has also petitioned the PLP for a nomination in the next general election. She spoke with reporters after her meeting with the candidates committee. “I have never stepped forward to a position of leadership, I’ve always been pulled to it, always been called to it, always followed the beckoning of people who say we need you and I’m answering that call,” Lynes said.
Ormanique Bowe has expressed her interest in replacing incumbent Wayne Munroe as the Freetown candidate. She said, “I’m tired of my children in Freetown having to look in the eyes of a dead man. The last incident in Freetown, a young man had to shield two children and he lost his life.”
Bimini and the Berry Islands was one of the news constituencies created by the Constituencies Commission for the next election. Tasha Bullard Hamilton is seeking to be the nominee. She said during her time with the committee she presented them with a full plan for the constituency. “We’re looking at improved healthcare, health evacuations for medical emergencies, upgraded schools, docks and most importantly, housing.”
Member of Parliament for Marathon, the Hon. Lisa Rahming expressed that she would like the opportunity to continue programs in her constituency.
The PLP is set to ratify 14 more of its candidates for the next general elections on Thursday January 22nd.
