While touring businesses to promote trade diversification this week Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis was asked about his absence from a regional meeting held in Jamaica with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
One of the issues discussed at the meeting was forced Cuban labour associated with the deployment of medical professionals from the island nation to other jurisdictions in the time of need.
He said, “the Chairman of CARICOM at the moment is Mia Mottley and she attended that meeting along with two other leaders in the region. We’ve had conversations with the envoy from the State Department, Minister Mitchell met with them about two Sundays ago in Washington and their position is not to deal with this on a multilateral level but on a bilateral level. So I expect that we’ll be meeting with them when its convenient for them to meet with us. We have noted to them that we are willing to meet and discuss this issue.”
