Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis was asked about the closure of PharmaChem Technologies on the island of Grand Bahama while he was attending a Majority Rule Day ceremony at PLP Headquarters in Nassau.
Davis said, “we’re hopeful that the employees that are being impacted will be sorted out according to our laws and hopefully we’ll be able to try and retrain and try to place them elsewhere.”
Also commenting on PharmaChem’s closure was the Minister of Labour and the Public Service, the Hon. Pia Glover-Rolle. She said, “our Director of Labour, Mr. Howard Thompson and the Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey have been working together along with the PharmaChem team to ensure that the statutorily correct redundancy payments are made and also that we are identifying potential opportunities for those employees. Because many of them have specific skills and training that they may not be able to be placed in roles they are skilled in but definitely we need to ensure that they have some form of gainful employment.”
PharmaChem Technologies announced its intention to end operations on the island of Grand Bahama last week after more than 20 years.
