The University of The Bahamas (UB) is conducting an exhibition in the main lobby of the Harry C. Moore Library, launched April 28, 2025 to mark the 60th Anniversary of ‘Black Tuesday,’ a milestone in Bahamian history. On what is known as Black Tuesday of 1965, Opposition Leader Lynden Pindling threw the Speaker’s Mace, symbol of authority, out of the window of the House of Assembly in a bold move. Mrs. Lorraine Armbrister, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Technical and Vocational Training brought remarks to the commemoration. In attendance were Dame Marguerite Pindling, widow of Sir Lynden; Janyne Hodder, President (Actg.) of the University of The Bahamas; Dr. Christopher Curry, UB Associate Professor of History and prominent Bahamian historian; Don Cornish, Director of the National Museum of The Bahamas, and faculty of University of the Bahamas.
