Former NBA Player, Rick Fox has been ratified by the Free National Movement to contest the Garden Hills seat in the next general election.
Fox spoke with ZNS News this week where he responded to recent comments made by Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis who claimed Fox approached him about running for the Progressive Liberal Party. Fox said, “what I will tell you is that I applied and registered and signed an application for one party. I did not seek in this process, at all, in any point in time, a nomination to anyone for anyone and I’m just grateful that I’m representing, right now, the Garden Hills constituents because the response I’m getting from them is that they need new representation.”
Fox, 56, formerly served as an Ambassador at Large for The Bahamas from 2022 to 2024. According to him the upcoming general elections will be his first time voting in any country. He said, “I’m not the first one that will vote this year for the first time. I carry that as a badge of excitement not shame. So if someone wants to shame me for having not voted quite yet I bet I could find a lot of Bahamians at my age that haven’t voted ever. Because they’ve either been disenfranchised by the results and don’t want to support the current system or the individuals running it.”
The former NBA star also expressed confidence in his chances of winning in Garden Hills.
