A recruitment exercise is underway to fill available positions on the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF), Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) and the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDOCS).
Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe recently told reporters the RBDF is expecting a new squad of recruits by the end of the month. He said, “we’re finding, fortunately, that the National Youth Guard is proving a very effective feeder system. Those young men and women have been exposed to a minimal sort of militarization during their training. They’re recruiting from their Ranger program which they operate in the high schools and they hope to put in a squad of 150 persons by the end of this month to improve their manpower strength.”
To combat the shortage in officers, the government passed legislation allowing RBDF officers to be engaged until the age of 60. According to the Minister the Defence Force also recently recruited a group of reserves. “So we’re addressing the manpower issues of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Bahamas Department of Corrections. At the end of this month all three of those organizations will have recruit classes in,” Munroe said.
