Industry officials are reviewing the impact of the bomb scare that occurred at the Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) on Sunday.
Travelers and workers at the airport were evacuated from the facility when a call was received where it was stated that there was a bomb in Terminal B. Law enforcement and airport officials responded and made their assessments and checks of the threat. The ordeal came to an end at 9:13 am when the all clear was given.
Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board Chief Executive Officer, Joy Jibrilu spoke with ZNS News on Monday about the impact of the incident. She said, “whenever something like this happens without a shadow of a doubt it cause fear and concern. This weekend has been exceptionally busy with both arrivals and departures from LPIA. We’re at the peak of spring break and all of our hotels, here in Nassau and Paradise Island, are so optimistic and therefore, none of us wants anything to jeopardize that.”
The Chief Executive said The Bahamas is seen as a safe destination and that the country leans into that point. “And so you go and try and safeguard against any potential for reputational risk. We do know also, and I just want to tie this in, that in South Florida there being multiple calls of possibly bomb threats. So we hope that this is not a trend at this time,” Jibrilu said.
The handling of the incident by airport officials received mixed reviews from visitors.
