Former Parliamentarian and Cabinet Minister, Dame Janet Bostwick was recently quoted in the media on the Free National Movement’s chances in the next general election.
According to reports Bostwick said the FNM securing a victory at the polls would be an uphill battle. FNM National Chairman, Dr. Duane Sands made the case for the party’s chances of winning the general election in an interview with ZNS News on Monday.
He said, “the base of the party is intact. We hurt some people, the Free National Movement did, in the previous administration. It’s one of the reasons why the former leader is not running. And so, you know, we have acknowledged the hurt, the pain that we have created. We are sincerely sorry, but the FNM is under new management with Michael Pintard. We are a different Free National Movement. We are once again true to the roots of this great organization.”
Former Deputy Prime Minister and former FNM Deputy Leader, Brent Symonette agreed with Bostwick’s comments. He said, “I think they lost supporters because of Minnis’ mess up last election. The question now is gaining them back to vote for the FNM. That’s why the FNM lost the last election because they lost that support and the voter turnout was extremely low. So the question now is are the FNM supporters content with the new leadership and are the willing to come out and vote.”
The FNM is expected to hold its campaign launch this Saturday, March 21st.
