A woman was shot and killed in her home on Alamanda Lane off Wilton Street on Monday evening.
According to police they were alerted to the incident through their Shotspotter technology. The victim was holding a 1 year old baby when she was hit by a bullet from outside the home. Police Press Liaison Officer, Chief Superintendent Sheria King was on the scene. She told reporters, “when officers arrived on scene officer discovered an adult female in her late forties with what appears to be gunshots to the upper body.”
The shooting was the result of a chase between two men in the area. During the pursuit one of the men opened fire hitting the wooden home occupied by the victim and her family. The victim was reportedly seated on her bed at the time of the incident.
Family members stood outside the house visibly distraught as officers conducted their investigation. A relative of the victim identified her as Tamika Cime and relayed details of the incident. “She sittin’ on her bed with her mummy. Her mummy is a senior citizen. She sittin’ on the bed with her mummy and her grandchildren. She was a person of love, a Christian, God fearing woman who loved her children and her grandchildren. She never bother anybody all my life and if an altercation is going on, even if it’s amongst family, she would remove herself from any altercation. We just want justice for her because she didn’t deserve that. Out of all the things and all the persons in the world, Tamika who we affectionately call Meeky, Meeky ain’ deserve that.”
The child the victim was holding was unharmed. Police investigations continue into this matter.
