The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) has begun a major initiative to digitise student records, aiming to enhance the management of student information and better serve its expanding student body across seven sites.
BTVI President, Dr. Linda A. Davis, emphasised that this initiative underscores the institution’s commitment to innovation while improving the security of student and alumni records.
“We aim to streamline the management of student data, making records more accessible and reducing the time spent on manual processes,” said Dr. Davis.
“The transition to digital records will also strengthen data security, protecting sensitive information from physical damage or loss. For example, our Grand Bahama Branch Campus suffered significant destruction during Hurricane Dorian in 2019. We endeavour to safeguard against this moving forward. For those whose records were damaged or lost, we’ve been providing verification letters as proof of their academic history,” added Dr. Davis.
The digitisation of student records will enable BTVI to better safeguard sensitive information, facilitate faster retrieval and processing of data, and bring the institution in line with global standards for student record-keeping. This initiative is part of a larger institutional modernisation effort to also digitise Human Resources and Financial Records, further improving operational efficiency and governance.
The project is being funded through the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute Enhancement Project, supported by Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) Loan 12/OR- BHA. It is a pivotal step for BTVI as the institution works to improve operational efficiency, enhance security and deliver improved services to its students.
