The United States and China announced an agreement to suspend their tariff standoff for ninety days after imposing tariffs as high as 145%.
Baha Mar Senior VP Government & External Affairs, Robert ‘Sandy’ Sands recently spoke to ZNS News about the impact of the tariffs on local tourism. Sands said, “it is caused for some tentativeness in the marketplace. That tentativeness has caused for a slow down in the booking pace of business.”
After tourist arrivals hits record numbers in recent years, Sands says business is not as robust. “We had envisioned 2025-2026 being banner years for The Bahamas having grown on the momentum of post COVID and also the successes we’ve had in 2023-2024.”
The Baha Mar Executive is hopeful for continued compromise as far as the tariffs. He says tourism in The Bahamas is not about the number but the economic benefit for Bahamians.
