On Friday, May 30, 2025, the Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey and Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Grand Bahama, Kingsley Smith, were special guests at the official opening ceremony of Coconut Blessings Coconut Water Factory in Port Lucaya.
The event marked a significant milestone for local entrepreneur Nevar Smith, whose vision and determination have brought a new addition to Grand Bahama’s economic development.
“What a fantastic day for Grand Bahama and what a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit that thrives within our community,” said Kingsley Smith.
He commended Nevar for his courage in pursuing a bold idea and turning it into a reality. “Today you are not just opening a business, you are investing in the future of Grand Bahama. You are demonstrating the power of entrepreneurship, the importance of local business and the potential that lies within each and every one of us.”
Kingsley emphasised that the factory’s focus on health-conscious and natural coconut products reflects the kind of innovation that drives local business, bringing fresh ideas, new products, and unique services to the marketplace.
Moxey also congratulated Nevar for taking a bold step forward with his new business. “Today is not just about the launch of a new business, it’s about the undeniable impact of local vision, local dedication and local investment in the heart of Grand Bahama.”
“Coconut Blessings is a testament to the robust confidence our own people have in Grand Bahama’s future, and that, my friend, is a powerful indicator of true progress.”
Moxey highlighted the government’s continued commitment to supporting entrepreneurship, particularly among young Bahamians, pointing to programs that provide access to training, resources, and opportunities to help them launch and grow their own businesses.
“This isn’t just about selling a product, it’s about integrating a local brand into the very fabric of our island’s culture and tourism offering. It’s about showcasing Bahamian ingenuity and flavour to the world.”
“The coconut itself is deeply embedded in Bahamian life. From our food, to our crafts, to health benefits. It represents resilience, sustenance and our unique heritage. Coconut Blessings isn’t just a business — it’s a celebration of our culture, repackaged and presented to a new generation.”
