Press Statement
Doctors Hospital Health System (DHHS) has introduced a new Nursing Professional Practice, Career Advancement and Performance Management Framework, establishing nine professional bands with defined clinical and administrative career pathways. Advancement will be based on competency, performance, professional development and accountability.
The initiative recognizes the value of nursing while supporting long-term career growth and the retention of nursing talent in The Bahamas.
“This provides greater clarity around what is expected at each level, what is required for advancement and how our nurses can build meaningful, long-term careers within Doctors Hospital Health System,” said Dr. Bridgette Sherman, Chief Nursing Officer. “It connects professional development and performance directly to patient outcomes, operational excellence and the strategic priorities of DHHS.”
DHHS expects the changes to contribute to a stronger nursing culture centered on accountability and patient care, while reinforcing the importance of nurses at every level, particularly senior nurses, remaining connected to frontline care.
“Building the nursing culture we want requires us to clearly demonstrate how much we value the profession and to make meaningful, tangible changes that support our nurses,” said Dennis Deveaux, Chief Executive Officer of Doctors Hospital Health System.
“Clearly defined professional bands and development pathways create greater fairness and transparency while providing opportunities for advancement through both clinical and leadership tracks. Importantly, this approach recognizes experienced nurses who choose to remain at the bedside and ensures nursing leaders remain clinically engaged through mentorship and direct patient care.”
