Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation and Member of Parliament for Exuma and Ragged Island, the Hon. Chester Cooper recently provided an update on the extensive renovations underway at the Exuma International Airport.
Cooper told reporters, “we now see vertical construction. I’m delighted every time I come to see many, many men on the job. We see steel work. We’re almost up to the first floor. I’m really, really enthusiastic about the progress we’re seeing there. It’s more than just an airport, it’s really a gateway to the economy of Exuma and the cays. The people have waited long enough. We thank them for their patience and the progress is steady and sure.”
According to Cooper the construction project is expected to be complete in ten to twelve months. “The airside is already completed. We have brand new runways and taxi ways and lightings, drainage and all of the requisite safety infrastructure that’s required. So beyond the terminal really there’s a lot more work in terms of the foundation and the infrastructure that we’ve seen on the airside and all of that has been completed. The people of Exuma are pleased,” he said.
The construction work at the Exuma International Airport is part of the Family Island Airport Renaissance Project.
