Director of Investments, Phylicia Hanna has confirmed that the developers of the Grand Lucayan property in Grand Bahama have partnered with the Hilton brand to construct a 550 room resort.
Hanna told ZNS News the addition of Hilton makes it easier for the marketing of the destination. She said, “the Ministry of Tourism has an aggressive marketing strategy for the Commonwealth and they have been very aggressive with not just sitting home and marketing but going out, through various missions, and it just help them with their overall tourism campaign for the country. Having a branded hotel just makes it easier for them.”
CTL Maritime, a subsidiary of MSC has also committed to the construction of a beach club on twenty acres of the property. According to Hanna the developers are in discussions with their partners about a casino license. “The developer has been actively working with casino brands to fine-tune a possible match for a casino operator for the Grand Lucayan.”
The redevelopment of the Grand Bahama International Airport is also important to the success of the Grand Lucayan project. The airport was severely damaged during the passing of Hurricane Dorian in 2019. Officials say work on the airport will run parallel with the work at the Grand Lucayan.
Hanna said, “I’m constantly in contact with the Director of Aviation who continues to be aggressive with the redevelopment of the Grand Bahama International Airport. Based on the reports he constantly provides he’s well on his way with delivering on the airport which, of course, you know is key and those timelines for delivering of the airport is key to also the successes of the Grand Lucayan. The biggest thing for us right now is room capacity because Grand Bahama is in need of the rooms to attract the airlift to the island.”
The government signed a heads of agreement with Concord Wilshire for the redevelopment of the Grand Lucayan in May 2025
