A man was shot and killed on Jerome Avenue and Corlet Road on Christmas Day. The police were alerted of the incident by their shot spotter technology in the area.
Police Press Liaison Officer, Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings was on the scene and briefed reporters on the incident. She said, “at present we have very, very little information that we’re going on at this time. And so we’re making an appeal to members of the public who may have been in this immediate area around that time. You may have seen a vehicle leaving at a high rate of speed. You may have seen someone running from the area. We’re asking you to kindly reach out to the officer of the Criminal Investigations Department at 502-9991 or 2 or 502-9975 or 6. Any information that you can provide us with to advance this latest homicide will be greatly appreciated.”
The Chief Superintendent was asked about police plans to combat crime given that four murders occurred over the holiday weekend. ”It doesn’t change. We still remain resolute. We still remain resilient. We still continue with our operations that are effective. We still continue with our saturation patrols. Again, I’m going to tap into the mothers, the siblings, the relatives, the fiances, those of you who have family members who you know are involved in criminal activities, those who are involved in gang activities, those who are involved in conflicts, I’m gonna ask you again, to reach out to us. If you fail to do so you’re going to find that your loved one will end up in the same fate as persons who lost their lives tonight,” Skippings said.
