Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville delivered his contribution to the 2026/2027 budget debate in the House Of Assembly this week.
Dr. Darville made several announcements during his presentation including a nationwide public hospitals review and upgrades to the Rand Memorial Hospital in Grand Bahama. He said, “critically assessments will be made inclusive of budgetary allocations for both the Rand Memorial Hospital and the Princess Margaret Hospital. The work of the task force will take place over a period of no more than twelve weeks and it will involve consultation of health care professionals at all levels.”
Renovations to the Rand Memorial Hospital are expected to begin in the coming weeks. He said, “essential renovations will begin that Rand Memorial Hospital Accident and Emergency and the morgue facility that went into some challenges because of the manufacturer will finally be completed.”
According to the minister construction of the Freeport Health Campus is also set to resume after some delays. “We’re also back on track with the construction of phase one of the Freeport Health Campus and this year we will complete the tender process for the multistory tower on that fifty acre site,” Dr. Darville said.
