The Ministry of Education and Technical and Vocational Training is hosting an orientation event for the more than seventy new hires that will begin work in multiple schools around the country when the new school year begins.
Education minister, the Hon. Glenys Hanna Martin told the group comprised of teachers, teacher’s aides and guidance counsellors that education is not a job but a calling. She said it is, “one in which you are called upon to shape and develop not just young minds but to help build character and engender confidence and ignite the intangible of hope in the spirits of an emerging generation.”
The minister also warned the new hires to be prepared for the colorful array of students they . “But do so with patience and empathy understanding that not all children come to the classroom in a straight line. Some have to climb mountains, dig out of holes and make their way through mazes to find their place in your classroom. Regardless of the circumstances each and every one of our children is a beautiful rendition of God’s grace and that grace finds itself through your voice, through your hands, through your mentorship in these young people.”
The orientation exercise is set to last three days and is being delf at the Stephen Dillet Primary School.
