Director of Education, Dominique McCartney-Russell recently provided an update on the ongoing annual school repair exercise in an exclusive interview with ZNS News.
She said, “we have approximately two hundred and forty projects and you know infrastructural upgrades, the maintenance of our campuses that’s a key component to ensuring that students have access to environments that are conducive.”
The process of ensuring contractors are mobilized and projects commence on time begins in November. According to the education director the current projects are about 65% complete. These works include plumbing, electrical, infrastructural issues. McCartney-Russell said, “we’re also focused on the aesthetics as well, you know, in terms of painting.”
The school repair program is being carried out across the country. “The goal is to ensure that all of our students have access, access to quality, holistic, globally competitive education. And so we don’t leave out our family islands. They are our children regardless of where they are,” McCartney-Russell said.
The budget for school repairs has decreased from $48 million in 2024 to $20 million this year.
