Minister of Foreign Affairs and Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Chairman, the Hon. Fred Mitchell has responded to statements made by Free National Movement (FNM) Leader, Michael Pintard at a press event held Sunday in Grand Bahama.
Pintard demanded answers from the government on several major development projects on the island including the Grand Lucayan Resort and the Grand Bahama International Airport.
Mitchell said, “he’s heard that good things are coming. The announcement is coming. The Cabinet is going to be up there next week and Grand Bahama is set to relaunch. Grand Bahama is doing better than it was four and a half years ago. When the FNM left office thing were in a perfect and total mess. So what this is is an attempt to sort of throw a bomb and try and distract the population from what is coming in the future.”
Mitchell advised Pintard to focus on the issues affecting the island like the Grand Bahama Port Authority. He said, “what he needs to do is to get on side of the people of Grand Bahama and ask the questions of the people who are the owners of the city and why they have not put the resources in to try and get the city back on its feet. The government has been subsidizing it, the Progressive Liberal Party has done its best and will continue to do its best to develop the city. Things are taking a little longer than we thought but the fact is the development is coming. So that’s Michael Pintard’s story with this, this is simply a distraction, he’s trying to beat the PLP to the punch but the public is gonna wait for the good news in the coming week.”
Mitchell also said he believes Grand Bahama is the future of the country.
