The Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) is exploring the creation of a taskforce to examine watersports and beach activity concerns in the country.
President of the BHTA, Robert Sands spoke to reporters on the issue on the sidelines of the group’s annual general meeting. He said, “I think on a macro high level position the industry realizes that we need to have new discussions, new dialogue at the ways in which amenities that support our tourism industry are carried out. And that’s what this taskforce of the Hotel Association would do to have a collaboration with all the stakeholders, regulators, Ministry of Tourism, security services, etc. because it’s our livelihood. And to not even have the discussion would be irresponsible, so we’re going to have that discussion.”
Sands’ comments come in the wake of the death of an American visitor that was killed in a recent shark attack in waters near Sandals Royal Bahamian on Cable Beach.
