A group of nineteen Bahamian young people attended the Middle East North Africa Climate Week held in Saudi Arabia last week.
A part of the Bahamian contingent was Lauren Ritchie who spoke to members of the press. She said, “I think it was a great opportunity bring small island perspectives to middle east and north Africa. Ritchie added, “it’s really interesting the way that its such a global and multi sectoral issue and the way that we need international collaboration for things to happen. So being able to seek that collaboration and to see those opportunities for us to share and grow together on such an important topic of sustainability and climate change was really empowering.”
Five Grand Bahamians were part of the group that were met at the airport by the Deputy Prime and Minister of Tourism, Investment and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper and the Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey.
Moxey said, “for Grand Bahama Island we’re looking to establish a center for sustainability. We know that Saudi Arabia has their own global sustainability center and so we’re gonna partner with them on that.”
