Commissioner of Police, Clayton Fernander revealed at a joint press conference with Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis on Tuesday that a suspect in police custody for the murder of Jason Lamm was able to remove his ankle monitor and demonstrated how he did it to police officers. Fernander further stated that he had contacted the contracted company for the monitors used by police on the issue.
Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe gave an update on the ankle monitoring system. Munroe spoke with reporters on the topic Thursday while attending a Rotary Club of West Nassau meeting. He said, “on the first issue of the monitoring device the police have made it plain they’re addressing the company which as a matter of fact was selected by Dr. Minnis’ administration. The RFP and the award of that contract was done by the FNM administration. We met it contract to be signed and it was signed having been awarded by them.”
Munroe revealed that according to records at the Ministry of National Security every company contracted to maintain the country’s ankle monitoring system has had issues. ”What happened in all of the situations with the other two companies is they were given the same opportunity that this company has been extended by the police to correct their issues.”
The Minister said the company will have to address the issues in short order or there will be consequences. The contract is currently held by Metro Security Solutions.
