Leader of the Opposition and the Free National Movement (FNM), Michael Pintard reacted to the announcement made by former Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis that he will run for re-election in the Killarney constituency as an independent candidate in the 2026 general election.
Pintard spoke with reporters on Wednesday while attending a groundbreaking ceremony at Baha Mar Resort. He said, “quite frankly we’re just excited about all of the candidates that we have ratified. We believe that we have picked a diverse and talented group of candidates. It would have been nice to have him as an elder statesmen to provide advice to a number of the new candidates, to build on the work the Free National Movement has done with four non consecutive times that we have served as the government of The Bahamas and I think he has, unfortunately, missed an opportunity there. But we continue to do the work with the talented folks who believe that it is important for all hands to be on deck and not just when you are in charge.”
Pintard announced at a press event last June that Minnis would not receive a nomination from the party. Senator Michela Barnett-Ellis has been named and ratified to contest the Killarney seat on behalf of the FNM.
