During his budget presentation in the House of Assembly on Monday, Minister of National Security, the Hon. Myles Laroda pledged continued investments in his ministry’s efforts to advance the nation’s security.
He said, “expansion of the CCTV network at a cost of $4,125,000.00, purchasing security and communication equipment at a cost of $1,250,000.00, investing in police and prison equipment, forensic and parole software, BDCS management and canines at cost of $4,900,000.00 maintenance of the Marco Alert system at a cost of $610,746.00.”
The minister revealed increased investment in local policing, the ankle monitoring system and capital expenditure. He said, “additional body worn cameras and digital evidence management platforms will be deployed. Advanced DNA analysis, digital forensics and cyber crime investigation capabilities will be expanded.”
Minister Laroda also spoke to maritime security saying, “advance radar installations in Eleuthera, Abaco and Ragged Island thereby expanding our maritime surveillance to five radars. We are grateful to the government of the United States for these donations.” More than a million dollars will be allocated to the National Drone program for a new communication network to support all law enforcement agencies.
