Parliamentary Commissioner Harrison Thompson in a Parliamentary Registration Department press conference, October 13, 2025 at the Tonique Williams-Darling Highway offices stated that verification stations are now open and operating in constituencies from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, Monday to Friday. “These stations are part of our continued effort to ensure that the voter register remains accurate, up to date, and ready for the next general election.”
The locations have been selected to provide easy access to voters to ensure every eligible Bahamian has an opportunity to confirm his or her information ahead of the next election cycle, he said.
In New Providence, stations have been established at familiar community sites including St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Lyford Cay, St. Anne’s School Fox Hill, Aquinas College, the Smiley Building, the University of The Bahamas, the Nassau Village and Fox Hill community centres and Remnant Tabernacle on Carmichael Road.
“We’ve also partnered with the Ministry of Education,” Mr. Thompson said, “to make verification available at several public Schools such as Anatol Rogers, C.R. Walker, Thelma Gibson, Government High, Garvin Tynes, T. G. Glover and Sybil Strachan. Similar efforts are already underway in Grand Bahama and throughout the Family Islands.
“The purpose of this exercise is straightforward,” he said of the verification process. “It gives voters an opportunity to confirm their existing information, correct any discrepancies, and, if they choose, allow their biometric data to be transferred from their passport to the voter register.”
Verification is voluntary, but encouraged as accurate information improves efficiency of the electoral process.
In addition, with respect to biometrics, he said: “No one will be removed from the register or denied the right to vote based on whether they agree to provide biometric data. No one is being forced into this process. Participation is voluntary, and the traditional verification method remains in place for all voters.”
Verification requires a valid Bahamian passport or current voter’s card, and the process to confirm or correct personal information can be completed within minutes.
For this general election cycle, only new voters are being registered; previously registered persons remain on the continuous register. New voter’s cards are expected to be ready by January 2026.
