A man and woman were shot and killed in a drive by shooting on Prince Charles Drive near the Doris Johnson High School on Wednesday afternoon.
Police Press Liaison Officer, Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings was on the scene where she provided details of the incident. She said, “a gray Nissan Cube occupied by an adult male and female were traveling west along Prince Charles Drive when a gold Nissan vehicle pulled along side. It is reported that three males emerged from the gold vehicle, all of whom were armed with firearms and fired multiple gunshots.”
A seven year old child was injured in the one of the vehicles next to the one driven by the deceased male.
The deceased male was unofficially identified by family members as Dino Smith of Quakoo Street. Skippings described the victims as, “a thirty year old male who happens to be celebrating his birthday or was celebrating his birthday today that made him thirty years. The female is twenty seven years of age.”
The Chief Superintendent also said of the male victim, “as I indicated he is known to police. He was on bail for an attempted armed robbery. He was before the courts for firearms. He was also a suspect in the $1 million robbery that occurred at the ending part of last year. He was in custody based on the intelligence we received and shortly after he was released from our custody he was shot. He was brought back into the custody and we questioned him in regards to who may want to take his life and he refused to provide us with that information.”
Also on the scene was Member of Parliament for Centreville, the Hon. Jomo Campbell who said Smith was a constituent and a former client. ”The deceased and myself had a similar relationship where we spoke. We often encouraged each other like I said, he was a constituent in the Centreville area. He help our team in the polling division in which he lived from time to time. It was a very sad day to see what has happened here today,” Campbell said.
According to police the suspects vehicle was found near Hanna Road however the shooters are still at large.
