Members of Parliament led by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, the Hon. Patricia Deveaux and the President of the Senate, Sen. Hon. Lashell Adderley attended the annual parliamentary church service held at Trinity Methodist Church on Wednesday.
The sermon was delivered by President of the Bahamas Christian Council, Apostle Delton Fernander. He told those in attendance, “I believe that now is the time, as you deliberate this year, that we have reached a point as a people when we must decide what type of nation that we leave for future generations. As you sit to plot the course, which is the duty that you have been elected to do, indeed I know it must be heavy on you that these are some transformative decisions that each of you get to make on our behalf.”
Fernander added, “you get to go to Parliament by consent. We have sent you there to lead us into green pastures, to lead us into peace and tranquility. And this is why I believe now more than ever before God has called you for such a time as this. I don’t care which party you belong to, I don’t care which color you wear, you are all Bahamian. Can I tell you it’s not a PLP crime problem, it’s not an FNM crime problem, its a Bahamian crime problem.”
The Christian Council President said, “all of us must see the need to work together, to work for the common cause, that is to collaborate to make our democracy and that which we do stronger than its ever been before. In times like this we understand that it is no longer to our advantage because you see if the ships sinks its not one side that goes down, all of us go down.”
Other members of the clergy offered prayers for the country, the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
