The official beginning of the 2025–2026 Local Government Junior Council Programme on Grand Bahama Island has begun: newly-elected councillors from Mary Star of the Sea Catholic School, Grand Bahama Academy, and Jack Hayward Junior High School took the oath of office this past week, beginning their journey to serve, lead and make a meaningful impact in their communities.
During the swearing-in ceremony at Jack Hayward Junior High School, District Superintendent of Education for Grand Bahama, Bimini and The Cays Maneica Pratt, delivered remarks congratulating the students on their achievement.
“To our newly-elected junior council members, I extend heartfelt congratulations. You have stepped forward, offered yourselves the service and earned the confidence of your peers,” she said. “Leadership is not about titles, it’s about character, accountability and willingness to do what is right especially when no one is watching.
“Your election speaks to your commitment, your integrity and your readiness to be positive agents of change. As students this opportunity gives you a unique seat at the table, a chance to learn how government works, how decisions are made and how community needs are addressed. More importantly, it allows you to become problem solvers, visionaries and ambassadors of excellence within your school.”
With the oath of office now taken, the newly elected councilors are set to begin their projects and initiatives for the 2025–2026 school year.
