The Ministry for Grand Bahama’s COLLAB Unit is setting the pace to sensitize residents on the need to donate blood regularly, and held its ‘Gift of Life’ blood drive at the Harold Degregory Complex on Saturday, May 31, 2025.
Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey was pleased with the turn out and the continued support from its partners, including Grand Bahama Health Services, Public Hospitals Authority, the Blood Donors Society of Grand Bahama, the Bahamas Red Cross Grand Bahama Centre, Kiwanis Club of Lucaya, Rotaract Club of Freeport and Pilot Club International, who helped to make the event a success.
“It’s so important to give back. We know that there is always a crisis I would say when it comes to blood donation. We’re always happy to do this because we’ve been setting records year after year in the amount of blood that is being donated,” she said, hoping to set another one at the end of the blood drive.
Minister Moxey echoed the call for other organizations to follow suit with such an important initiative to keep the blood bank at the Rand Memorial Hospital full which ultimately benefits the entire community, be it a relative, coworker or stranger.
“It’s important for all hands to be on deck and for all to come onboard and be a part of it. Yes, the Ministry for Grand Bahama has led the charge through its COLLAB Unit, but I believe so many more organizations should become a part of this initiative and other initiatives,” she said.
“We’re saving lives here. We have had situations where the blood bank has been pretty low and we’re very happy to see the turn out but we want to see more organizations involved, we want to see more family members and community members involved and I think it’s happening.”
The Royal Bahamas Police Force also showed up in full force with its newest recruits and was presented with the floating trophy, capturing the title for the third year.
