The Golden Isles bye-election was held on Monday. When the preliminary count was over former senator Darron Turnquest of the Progressive Liberal Party was declared the winner.
Free National Movement (FNM) standard bearer, Brian Brown was the FNM candidate for the area for the second time. Though the percentage of votes he received was more than in the 2021 general election, it was not enough to win.
In his concession speech at his headquarters on Carmichael Road, Brown thanked the voters, his team and promised to remain in the area. He said, “I want to thank the leader of the Free National Movement and the entire party and the wonderful team who did an excellent job with this campaign, we’ve done well. I must say it looked well today and Mr. Brown will be here again tomorrow. The office will be open and I’m ready to go, ready to work. I’m not dismayed by what today is, today is about to finish and tomorrow is about to start.”
Brown also announced that he will provide thanksgiving meals to at least 500 people in Thursday.
FNM Leader, the Hon. Michael Pintard also addressed supporters after the election. He encouraged them to continue the work to the general election. He said, “we realize that this work must continue by the grace of God. Brian has made a commitment to keep his office open and to continue all of the programs that he has started. We recognize that this is a journey. It is but one leg of the journey and despite this setback we will continue. This was a close race and tonight we fell just a bit short. But I want to congratulate Darron Pickstock and commend his campaign for their victory this evening.”
Pintard also said there is a lot of work still to be done in the country.
