In recognition of the invaluable contribution volunteers and sponsors make to the organization, the Grand Bahama Resilience Center paid homage to everyday ‘angels’ during the Fifth Annual Resilience Angel Mixer at Pelican Bay hotel on May 9, 2025.
While bringing brief remarks, Mrs. Ann Marie Davis of the Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister pointed out that many in the community have benefitted from the ‘angels’ who look after the Resilience Center and she was proud to see that the center, which was born out of a crisis that left so many families devastated after Hurricane Dorian, is still going strong.
“As patron for this event and a friend of the Grand Bahama Resilience Center, I am honoured to celebrate the beauty of service here tonight,” she said.
Mrs. Davis also noted that growth of the Angel Mixer over the last four years is a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community fully commits itself to healing, recovery and hope.
She said the center became a sanctuary in the storm where pain was met with compassion and trauma was met with support.
“But its mission has gone far beyond a response for disaster. Today, the Resilience Center is a year-round force for doing good. It continues to provide vital services focused on mental health, emotional recovery and community resilience,” she added.
In a world where so many of us carry silent burdens, the center reminds us that healing is not a luxury, it is a necessity and the Angel Mixer provides an opportunity to recognize the volunteers and donors who give of their time, talent and resources and make the work possible at the Resilience Center.
Volunteering is one of the highest forms of building community, Mrs. Davis said and thanked the honorees, volunteers, donors and friends for being the hands and hearts behind the Resilience Center.
“Thank you for standing up in times of need and showing us the true meaning of resilience. May you continue to be a blessing to others and may your efforts through God’s grace and strength go far beyond what you can see,” she said.
